Valentine’s Day is a Heartbeat Away -

Latest Trends in Dating from Romance Experts

DATELINE:  HINGHAM, MA, JANUARY 9, 2002… Don’t know what women want?  Think men only want someone that’s a perfect “10”?  Not sure where to meet that special someone? With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, the romance experts at the world’s largest dating service, The Right One and Together Dating have uncovered a few dating preferences and trends that may surprise you.

In a recent anonymous survey taken by over 2,000 members of The Right One and Together, the world’s largest dating service with over 80 locations throughout the United States, several questions were posed to determine dating preferences and trends.

Honesty Rings True

In response to what most attracts someone, the number one answer was honesty.  Humorous rated second place and “good looks” ranked as the third important factor of attraction.  And surprisingly, financial stability least attracts a person to someone else.

According to the survey, the worst method of initially meeting someone compatible is going to a bar.  The Internet ranked as the second worst way next to work.  Blind dates were the “least worst” method of meeting someone.

Conversation is Key

Although finding someone at a “bar” is taboo, most people answered that the ideal first date is coffee/cocktails and conversation.

“Trying to meet someone by hanging around at a bar is the worst method to find.  But, nowadays, people are so busy with their professional lives that meeting for a first date over coffee or a single drink is a good way to start.  Caution, if you do meet for ‘drinks’, don’t overdo it  – no one likes a drunk, it makes a very bad first impression,” states Paul Falzone, CEO of The Right One and Together Dating. “An initial informal and brief meeting gives you a chance to converse.   If you’re having a good time, you can then go out for dinner or plan something else.”

And just because you’re meeting for a drink doesn’t mean you have to go to the typical “bar” for it. Falzone suggests several places to go for refreshments with a nice atmosphere. “You can meet at a good restaurant or a juice bar,” he suggests. “A pleasant atmosphere and a clean place to meet and talk is what you are looking for.”

It’s all about Attitude

Among all these trends, what was the biggest dating turnoff?  A bad attitude.  According to the survey, people were less inclined to overlook a bad attitude than smoking, drinking or egotism.

According to Falzone, finding The Right One and Together take three basic ingredients:

·          A positive attitude.  No one really appreciates pessimism.

·          A realistic set of expectations.  People can’t be “cookie cut” from a machine.

·          A willingness to give feedback, be open and honest.  Give people a chance and the benefit of the doubt.  Don’t disregard the person for superficial reasons such as how they sound on the telephone.

“People now are less worried about meeting someone who is very wealthy or good looking,” said Falzone. “Honesty, sincerity and a sense of humor go a long way. People are more concerned with meeting someone with common interests that they can share with each other.”

Falzone noted, “At The Right One and Together, we eliminate the ‘footwork’ for people.  We take care of the interviews and gauge compatibility and suitability for our clients, essentially cutting down on the enormous amount of time that it usually takes to find that special someone.”
